Questions
What is the NEMA rating?
Only the Model G has an IP-54 rating and the kit must be installed in house. All other models are rated NEMA 1.
Do I need to vent the switch?
All gas switches must be vented except for the Model G and the VERSA Series.
Can I connect the high/Low switch to the same gas line?
Yes.
What size line or fittings do I use?
Air switches can use any 1/8” NPT fitting. For line sizes, review your local codes for this information
Can the switch be mounted outside and exposed to rain, snow, etc?
We don’t recommend outside usage for our switches since they are only rated at NEMA 1. The Model G & VERSA Series with an IP-54 kit are the only switches we recommend for outside use in a covered environment.
Are thermocouples/thermistors available for purchase?
Yes. We do offer thermocouples/thermistors for sale – NOTE: Sensors are specially designed for use with our controls.
Where does the HLGP-A pipe fit into the gas train? Should it monitor continuous pressure in order for it to operate?
The high pressure side measures input gas pressure to the gas train. The low pressure side measures the pressure after the safety shut off and regulator. The regulators job is to step down the pressure level needed for the burner.
Do you plug up unused ports on the SMD or do you leave them open?
The unused port for air pressure or vacuum switch must be left open to atmosphere so air may enter or exit from the open port allowing the switch to function properly in the applied application. Do not plug open ports.
Does the HLGP-A replace the old Chicago Safety switch HLGP-AM1?
Yes, it’s a direct replacement.
Is a thermistor probe longer than 20 feet available? If so, how would it affect my temperature sensing?
No, we only offer 10’ & 20’ probes. Additional wire can be added. Example: On a 10K sensor adding 1-2’ of wiring will only add a few degrees to temperature sensing.
Are individual components available?
No, we do not sell individual components. We only sell complete products.
What is the average life span of a switch?
It is recommended that switches be replaced after 5 years of use as part of your routine preventive maintenance.
What types of gas can the gas switches be used on?
Gas switches can be used with natural gas and LP (liquid petroleum/propane).
Can an Air switch be used with gas?
NO! Never use an air switch in gas applications. Only use gas switches specifically designed for natural gas and LP (liquid petroleum/propane).
